Gus’s Drive-in Ride – Saturday, August 22nd – 9:00 AM – Brighton Dale Links
I love to ride in the SE Wisconsin countryside near Burlington. I started riding in the area with my college roommate in the 1980s. After joining the club in the 1990s, I did some club rides in the area. The Club had a weekend long outing at a camp in the area for several years, and more recently has had fast and fast plus paced rides in this area. A few years back Ken Schulein put together a shorter route suitable for moderate riders that has become one of my favorite routes
Here is a link to the route I will be using: Gus'sDriveIn-WI · Ride with GPS. The route is on rural roads with rolling hills to Gus's Drive in East Troy for lunch at mile 25. Rest stops with snacks are at mile 12 and at Adrian's Frozen Custard at mile 38. The total distance is 50 miles.
In recent years we have seen a wild Turkey, several Sandhill Cranes, and all manner of political signage that you just don’t see on the Northshore. The scenery is spectacular, and most roads are lightly traveled. And how can you resist Gus’s with its giant muffler man out front, life-size Elvis sculpture inside, classis Drive-In cuisine, and 50s rock music on the sound system. We will be too early for Gus’s weekly classic car “Cruise Night,” but it is likely that there will be some classic cars in the lot, and there are photos of “Cruise Night” inside.
Remote Start: Brighton Dale Golf Course. Take I-94 North to Wisconsin. At exit #340 take WI-142 west toward Burlington. At WI-75 turn right (north) go 0.7 miles and turn left into golf course. Park at an empty area of the clubhouse parking lot. Allow an hour and 15 minutes from Evanston.
